Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool would suit Erling Haaland better than Premier League title-rivals Manchester City, former Borussia Dortmund ace Kevin Grosskreutz tells the Bundesliga’s Webshow.
Speaking just a couple of weeks ago, Klopp all-but ruled out a move for arguably Europe’s most coveted footballer, telling BILD that Liverpool just cannot compete with their Abu Dhabi-backed neighbours for a striker with a ‘crazy’ market value.
But how ‘crazy’ is Haaland’s price-tag, really?
It is common knowledge that the towering Norwegian has a £63 million release clause in his contract. When you consider that Haaland is available for less than Liverpool’s top-flight rivals paid for the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Harry Maguire, a striker with 25 goals this season and 110 in his last 108 games for Dortmund and Red Bull Salzburg suddenly looks like a bargain, even at nearly £70 million.
Nonetheless, if Haaland is indeed on his way to England, it looks for all the world that Manchester, rather than Merseyside, will be his eventual destination.
Erling Haaland: £63m a bargain?
“It will be difficult for Haaland to stay at Dortmund,” says Grosskreutz, a two-time Bundesliga champion under Klopp a decade ago.
“If he does go, then hopefully he goes abroad. Personally, I don’t think he would be a good fit for Manchester City, but rather for Liverpool with Klopp’s football.”
If Haaland’s £63 million price-tag represents good value, then his eye-watering wage demands have certainly shortened the list of clubs capable of challenging Manchester City for his signature.

According to The Mail, City have already agreed to pay Haaland a staggering £500,000-a-week. A pay packet that will make him the highest earner in the whole of the Premier League.
“I see him playing in England,” explains Ruud Gullit, the 1987 Ballon D’Or winner and former Netherlands, Chelsea and AC Milan star. “But I don’t think he’s going to Manchester United.

“Manchester City would be good for him because of Pep Guardiola. But Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool would be great too.
“What Jurgen has done with that club is incredible. You just have to love him and he’s always hungry for more. That suits Haaland.
“In Spain, only Real Madrid is an option. These are the three clubs that will be in the race for Erling (Real, City and Liverpool).”
