Erling Braut Haaland is destined to be one of the world’s best footballers, but Leeds United remains close to his heart.

The 20-year-old striker was born in Leeds back in the year 2000 and has been occasionally linked with a move to Elland Road, albeit long before he was the superstar-in-waiting that he is now.

Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge, also played for the Whites at one stage.

With the young hitman’s roots in West Yorkshire, fans of the newly-promoted Premier League side have spent the past few years urging him to come home on social media.

And although it’s unlikely that the Borussia Dortmund striker will sign for United anytime soon, it’s clear that he has a major affinity for the club.

In midweek, Haaland lit up the international stage by scoring twice for Norway against Northern Ireland and later sought out Leeds defender Stuart Dallas to swap shirts with him.

The towering blonde assassin, who reportedly has a £63 million release clause, then shared a brief laugh with his opposite number in a moment which warmed the hearts of the Elland Road faithful.

But if they liked that exchange, they’ll love what Haaland is supposed to have said to Dallas.

Kalvin Phillips, who was interviewed on Sky’s Soccer Am show yesterday [broadcast 12/09], had this to say: “He [Dallas] was buzzing to be fair. Obviously, a lot of Leeds fans were asking what Haaland said in his ear but I don’t really know. He’s not really mentioned it. I think he just said ‘Marching on Together’ in his ear and asked for his shirt.”

Of course, Marching on Together is one of the Whites’ anthems and if true, Leeds fans will love the big man just a little bit more for saying those three simple words.
