Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has said that it will cost £63m for any club interested in signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.

The Independent reports that since Paris Saint-Germain pulled out of the race for the striker’s signature, Liverpool are now the favourites to secure Aubameyang.

“We will listen to it when a club is willing to show its appreciation for Aubameyang in a financial way as well,” Watzke told German publication Bild.

“If an official bid were to reach more than £63m, it would have to be reported as a necessary to proceed. This has not happened so far.”

If the Reds could secure Aubameyang it would be their most important signing since Luis Suarez joined the club from Ajax in January 2011 – beating other standout transfers such as Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane, for example.

That is because the 28-year-old is a forward with genuine world-class ability – a claim that is backed up by taking a quick look at his goalscoring record at Dortmund.

In 189 games for the Bundesliga club since joining from Saint-Etienne in 2013, Aubameyang has netted 120 times. His 31 league strikes in 2016/17 was bettered by only two other players from Europe’s top five divisions – PSG’s Edinson Cavani (35) and Lionel Messi at Barcelona (37). Suarez scored 29.

After finishing fourth in the Premier League last term and securing a return to the Champions League as a result, manager Juergen Klopp is certainly building something exciting at Anfield currently.

Yet while there are issues to be addressed in central defence, at left back, and perhaps in goal, with Coutinho finishing as the club’s top-scorer in all competitions with 14 goals, a consistent striker is a must. Step forward Aubameyang.
