Well, July 30 is going to be remembered as a bit of a dark day for Newcastle United.
After almost five months of waiting, Newcastle aren’t being bought out by Saudi Public Investment Fund.
They released a statement this afternoon revealing that they have pulled out of the £350 million deal to buy the Magpies.
The Premier League has been mulling a decision to greenlight the takeover since April, with allegations of broadcast piracy complicating the completion of the deal.
For the longest time it was reported that Saudi PIF were confident of a greenlight in spite of the delays.
But Mike Ashley will remain as Newcastle owner for a little while longer, much to the devestation of virtually every fan of the St James’s Park club.
Here’s how Trevor Sinclair and Will Shearer – son of United icon Alan – reacted to the news on Twitter today:
It was reported earlier in the summer that Henry Mauriss, a US-based media figure, was willing to buy the club had the Saudi bid failed.
And Newcastle fans will be desperate for that speculation to be accurate, as now is the time for Mauriss to come in – if he is indeed interested.
