Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has told his club’s official website that a victory for Arsenal over Tottenham Hotspur today would transform peoples’ perception of him and his team-mates.
Tottenham will be big favourites to secure the bragging rights this evening.
Mikel Arteta’s side travel across North London on the back of a 2-1 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out – their last Premier League game, though they thumped Rapid Vienna in midweek.
The Gunners have been in rotten form for much of the domestic campaign, hence why they were 14th in the table prior to gameweek 11.
Spurs, on the other hand, started the weekend in top spot and there’s no doubt that the Emirates Stadium outfit are big underdogs.
And that’s exactly why a win, according to goal-shy Aubameyang, would make people realise how good Arsenal can be.
Aubameyang, who has scored one Premier League goal from open play this season, said: “I think if we win this game, everyone is going to maybe change their mindset and yes, as I said it’s going to be the turning point of the season, and there’s no better game than a derby to do it.
“It’s going to lift everyone if we win this game. We know it’s going to be a tough game, they are playing well at the moment to tell the truth, but we have to care about our game, how we want to play the game, so it’s all about us if we want it or not.”
Aubameyang, a £60 million signing three years ago, is no less of a striker than Harry Kane in terms of goalscoring, but the England international – who has 13 goals and 11 assists in all competitions this season – is so much more in form right now.
That being said, class is permanent and if the Gabon international wants an Arsenal win, he has huge sway in that regard.
