Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez has taken to Twitter to praise his side’s 2-1 win against Arsenal this weekend.
The Premier League leaders continued their incredible winning run with a champion’s performance against the Gunners, who took the lead in the opening half and threatened City all match.
The north London side, however, were unable to make their chances count as they conceded a penalty and had a man sent off in a matter of minutes as City snatched a winner in stoppage time.
And it was Mahrez who got the ball rolling, with the Algerian attacker converting the penalty with ease and putting City back in the match with his 13th goal of the season.
The winger, who City signed from Leicester City in 2018 for a reported fee of £60m, will now depart for the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria. And Mahrez left supporters with the best leaving present possible.
Indeed, City will miss Mahrez, who has been cracking form in recent weeks. And the winger took to social media to praise the win against Arsenal. The attacker posted: “Starting the New Year like we finished the last. Next stop, AFCON.”
Mahrez influence will be missed after vital goal for City

With Mahrez captaining Algeria for AFCON 2022, the 31-year-old will be missed for the Cityzens after an impressive run of form for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Penalty aside, the attacker caused Arsenal problems down the right-wing. And with a stacked fixture list coming up for City, the Premier League leaders will miss the attacker in the coming weeks, who could be back as late as mid-February.
