What a second-half performance by Liverpool away to Arsenal tonight – and specifically, Roberto Firmino.
Arsenal dominated the opening 45 minutes against the Premier League title-chasing Reds.
However, Liverpool still wound up recording a relatively simple 2-0 victory after netting two goals after the break.
Jurgen Klopp introduced Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino early in the second half – and the latter turned the game on its head.
The Brazilian, a £29 million signing in 2015, was an immediate threat to the Gunners and later doubled Liverpool’s advantage with a deft, near-post flick following a drilled cross.
Here’s how Jamie Carragher reacted to the goal on Twitter, referencing the South Americans’ famous chant:
Massive
It was a massive cameo from Firmino, even without the goal, and an overall enormous victory for Liverpool.
Klopp’s outfit are now only one point behind Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League, with the Citizens dropping two points away to Crystal Palace on Monday night.
Suddenly we have a Premier League title race once again after Pep Guardiola’s troops threatened to run away with the thing a little earlier in the calendar year.
Firmino might not be as important to Liverpool as he once was, prior to Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz joining the Anfield outfit.
But nights like this are a massive reminder that he can still be such an influential player for the club and if the Merseysiders do wind up overtaking City, this goal to kill off Arsenal will be remembered fondly.
