Liverpool obviously missed out on a bullet in the form of Patson Daka.
The Anfield outfit were heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old attacker.
However, Daka wound up joining Leicester City after his transfer to Liverpool collapsed, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speed is a massive part of Jurgen Klopp’s philosophy in football, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah firing the Reds to Champions League and Premier League titles in recent years.
And you can see why Klopp and Michael Edwards were interested in Daka.
Because, well, he’s absolutely lightning.
According to Opta, Daka, a £23 million signing by the Foxes [Sky Sports], boasts the fourth-highest speed of anybody in the Premier League this season, clocking 36.1 kilometres per hour.
That isn’t as high as Salah, who clocked 36.6 k/ph – the same as Adama Traore – but it is faster than other speed demons at Liverpool, like Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mane.
Daka has had a lukewarm first season in English football, netting 10 goals across all competitions – and four of those came in a Europa League victory in October, to add context.
However, speedy players are always capable of exploding into life after their first season in the Premier League.
And Liverpool, having missed out on the player, might be hoping the same doesn’t happen to Daka.
