Andre Schurrle’s prolific strike-rate at Chelsea is eclipsing the likes of Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres.

The German’s hat-trick at Fulham yesterday doubled his goal tally for the season, incredibly making him the Blues’ second-highest scorer in the Premier League after just eight starts.

Schurrle has found game-time hard to come by under Jose Mourinho but the 23-year-old has clearly made his impact felt given the chance, with his impressive minutes per goal ratio really demonstrating his ability in front of goal.

“Schurrle’s in a learning process in the Premier League but he has cold blood, in front of goal he is cool,” Mourinho told reporters after the game. “He’s a good finisher and that’s what I expect from him.”

Indeed, a comparison of the German’s strike-rate on Opta does not bode well for the rest of Chelsea’s strikers, with Schurrle even outshining top scorer Eden Hazard in this department.

Eto’o is the Blues’ second-most efficient in front of goal in terms of the amount of minutes it takes him to score – but the Cameroonian still averages a full hour more than the German.

Torres, meanwhile, takes more than double the amount of time to score on average, with Demba Ba almost trebling Schurrle’s rate.

And if you zone in on Chelsea’s strikers in particular, a look at the amount of shots per goal paints the same picture.

Eto’o has the same number of league goals to his name but with 12 more shots, while Torres has scored two less with a similar number of attempts. Ba, with just the one goal, would reach Schurrle’s tally in 96 shots if his current average was to continue.

So, in just eight starts, 23-year-old Schurrle has made his mark on Chelsea’s formbooks. Even if half of his goals came yesterday, he has still matched or beaten the tallies of all of the Blues’ forwards.

The German is well and truly showing them how it’s done.
