Joe Garner quit Glasgow Rangers for Ipswich last month and has made a flying start.

It is fair to say Joe Garner’s move from Preston North End to Glasgow Rangers was not a success, with the striker sold after just one season.

Garner scored in his first Old Firm game for the club but it ended in disaster with Celtic beating Rangers 5-1.

While he scored 10 goals in 34 appearances in total for the Gers, new manager Pedro Caixinha was unconvinced and sold him to Ipswich early on in the transfer window.

The early switch appears to have done Garner the world of good, as he has hit the ground running in pre-season.

He scored in a win over Colchester United last night, taking his tally to six goals in five games.

If Garner was lacking in confidence after his Rangers disappointment, he is quickly rebuilding it under Mick McCarthy at Ipswich.

It would be wrong to call Rangers letting him leave a mistake, instead this looks like a deal which will benefit all parties involved.

The move is just what Garner needed, and he will hope to continue his superb pre-season form into the Championship next month.
