Earlier this week, Liverpool might have signed their long-term replacement for a certain Sadio Mane.
Liverpool completed a £49 million deal to bring Luis Diaz to Anfield from Porto.
With Diaz being a left-sided attacker – like Mane – it is certainly plausible that the Merseysiders are thinking ahead to the day when the Senegal international ultimately leaves the Premier League outfit.
And if one new transfer rumour is true, Jurgen Klopp might have identified Mohamed Salah’s long-term successor, too.
According to Sky Germany, Liverpool are interested in signing Bayern Munich attacker Serge Gnabry.
The former Arsenal youth has enjoyed a stunning rise in recent years and helped the German colossus win a treble during the 2019-20 campaign.
If Liverpool are genuinely interested, well it’s probable that they want the Germany international as Salah’s replacement.
Like Salah, the 26-year-old – who’s three years younger – is a right-sided attacker and with Diaz already signed, Gnabry couldn’t possibly play anywhere else in Klopp’s outfit.
With only 12 goals across all competitions this season, Gnabry – who cost £6.8 million – has a ways to go before he’s anywhere near as prolific in attack as the Liverpool talisman.
He did, however, score four goals in a Champions League victory away to Tottenham a couple of seasons ago, highlighting that he’s certainly capable of finding the net at a frightening rate.
Salah could wind up staying and extending his contract at Anfield, with his existing deal expiring in 2023 but if the Gnabry speculation is correct, this is Liverpool hedging their bets.
