The Vasilis Barkas to Leeds United rumours might be about to intensify.
The Daily Record in Scotland reported earlier this week that the Premier League new boys were interested in signing the AEK Athens goalkeeper, who is valued at £6.5 million.
And interestingly, Varkas has today revealed that he wants a move to a top league – and even claimed that England is one of his preferred destinations.
The 26-year-old told The Scottish Sun: “If I went abroad, I would like to sign for a club in England, Germany or Italy. It wouldn’t be an easy step but I would like to do it one day.”
With Leeds the only English club linked with a move for Barkas right now, speculation about a switch to Elland Road is bound to spice up.
It’s a hammer blow for Celtic, the first British club to be tracking him – and they’ve been tracking him for close to a year.
But with Marcelo Bielsa’s side able to offer Premier League, and more money than Celtic, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if an ambitious player like Barkas opts for a move to England.
Leeds already have Illan Meslier – who’s expected to join on a permanent basis – and Kiko Casilla, so unless the Spaniard is leaving, bringing in Barkas wouldn’t make a huge deal of sense.
