Jaden Philogene ‘has the potential to go right to the very top’ with the former Aston Villa starlet shining since swapping the Premier League giants for Hull City.

Last month, Hull’s vice chairman Tan Kesler admitted that Aston Villa have a £15 million buy-back clause in Jaden Philogene’s contract.

And if the England U20 international maintains his current rate of progress at Humberside, do not be surprised to see Villa trigger said clause somewhere down the line.

With a goal and three assists in his last four Championship appearances, Philogene is adding a real ruthless streak to his pace and trickery, Hull’s Player of the Month gong a fitting reward for a man producing perhaps the greatest performances of his admittedly-young career.

“He’s a real player,” Rosenior tells the Hull Daily Mail. “He does things in training that are a joy. What I’ve loved in the short time I’ve been working with Jaden is his ability and his athleticism, but he said to me the other day ‘Gaffer, I don’t know why, but I love pressing, I love working hard’.

“And I love that about him.

“He’s so coachable. He’s so bright and intelligent, and it’s great work from the club to bring him here. I think he suits the way we play. We want to play with full width and wingers and creative players who want to have the ball, and he fits right into that.”

Philogene spent five years at Villa Park between 2018 and 2023, playing a trio of Premier League games in claret-and-blue. But, with the big-money arrivals of Moussa Diaby, Leon Bailey and co limiting further opportunities, Hull jumped at the chance to strike a bargain £5 million deal on September 1st

Rosenior, meanwhile, is keen to coax even more out of Philogene. The winger, he says, needs to make goals like the one he managed against Millwall last time out a more regular occurrence.

“With his shooting ability and natural ability, he can score more goals. My job is to push him,” adds the former Derby County coach.

“For sure, he has the potential. He has the ability. It’s my job as his manager and his coach to fulfil his potential. If he keeps working hard and showing his ability, he has the potential – a big word, potential – to go right to the very top.”
