Leeds United were crowned champions of the second tier last night.
Marcelo Bielsa’s troops thrashed Charlton Athletic 4-0 at Elland Road to put the finishing touches on a superb season.
The Whites will play in the Premier League for the first time in 16 years next season, after winning the Championship with 93 points.
One man who deserves a lot of credit is Illan Meslier.
The 20-year-old goalkeeper hadn’t kicked a ball in the Championship when Kiko Casilla was given his eight-match ban in February, putting a heap of pressure on the youngster.
And at the time, it was still undetermined whether Leeds would be winning promotion back to the top flight, but Meslier has been awesome despite his inexperience and here’s how the Lorient loanee reacted on Twitter last night:
Meslier looks set to join Leeds on a permanent basis.
Foot Mercato reported that the keeper will soon be joining Bielsa’s side on a long-term basis, with previous reports indicating that he could set United back around £5 million [Ouest France], while the player himself confirmed last week that he’d be there next season [RMC Sport].
