One player who is said to be on Tottenham’s radar right now is Atletico Madrid hitman Diego Costa.

The Spain international has played under Jose Mourinho before, winning the Premier League title under his tutelage in 2015.

It was Mundo Deportivo who recently revealed that the north Londoners, along with Everton, Napoli and Fenerbahce, are monitoring the striker’s situation.

Costa’s contract at the Wanda Metropolitano expires in the summer, and it looks like he won’t be renewing with Diego Simeone’s side.

In that respect, and given his history with Mourinho, we could see the powerful striker back on these shores, in our view.

The ex-Real Madrid boss described the Spaniard’s style of play as ‘brilliant’ following a 2-0 win over Aston Villa back in 2015.

The Guardian quote him as saying: ‘Sometimes personality qualities add something to the team. Diego isn’t a leader in the dressing room – he doesn’t even speak English well to be fluent – but in the game, the way he plays, the way he gives his body to the cause – it is always punished – is brilliant.’

Despite being 32 years of age, Costa could be a useful option for Mourinho, seeing as the Portuguese coach knows how to get the best out of him.

The man who Atletico Madrid paid £57 million for scored 24 goals in 57 games under the ex-Porto boss at Stamford Bridge.

His form in west London earned comparisons to Didier Drogba from ex-Chelsea defender Ken Monkou.

The Mirror quote him as saying: ‘He was Chelsea’s Didier Drogba or Zlatan Ibrahimovic – a player with a presence, charisma and aura around him on the pitch. Costa, Drogba and Ibra are players that set themselves apart because of their stature.’

After signing Gareth Bale, Spurs must be wary of filling their squad with too many players who have already enjoyed their prime years.

Having said that, there are few negatives to this deal if Tottenham can land Costa for a cut-price fee, given his history with Mourinho
