Celtic fans on Twitter are mocking Rangers hitman Jermain Defoe over his latest comments.

The 37-year-old striker has claimed that it’s ‘only a matter of time’ before the Gers overtake their bitter Old Firm rivals.

Thing is, Celtic haven’t failed to win a domestic trophy in almost exactly four years, winning three successive domestic trebles.

When the season was suspended, Rangers were trailing the Hoops by a massive 13 points following a dismal second half of the campaign under Steven Gerrard.

Defoe told Football Fancast: “I said it when I signed, I believe it’s only a matter of time before it happens.

“Celtic fans give me a bit of banter about it on social media but I do genuinely believe it’s only a matter of time.”

Here’s how Celtic supporters reacted to Defoe’s comments on social media:

Rangers will of course win the Scottish Premiership at some point but, then again, so too will Arsenal reign supreme in the Premier League once more.

But even the most optimistic light Blue will struggle to see how they’re going to topple Celtic for the foreseeable future.

Not only do the Bhoys have a greater financial muscle to flex, but Neil Lennon’s side know exactly how to win trophies and Rangers, well, don’t.
