The Evening Standard reported in April that Christophe Galtier was among the managers being considered by Tottenham Hotspur to replace Jose Mourinho.

Fast forward to now and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has so far failed to hire anybody as of yet.

Julian Nagelsmann and Brendan Rodgers have both rejected the Tottenham job, while Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick has just been appointed as Germany’s head coach.

The numbers have dwindled over the past month but there has been no denial – or confirmation – that Galtier is on Levy’s shortlist.

But speculation might intensify now after the 54-year-old resigned as Lille boss on Tuesday afternoon [L’equipe].

Galtier’s departure comes three days after leading the French side to Ligue 1 glory.

Fabrizio Romano reported this past weekend that Galtier was in line to become the new Nice coach but it seems like a step down for the Frenchman, having just beaten the likes of big-spending Paris Saint-Germain, equipped with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, to the title in France.

The Italian journalist is certainly a credible source – perhaps even as credible as they come – but swapping Lille for Nice does seem like an odd move.

And if Tottenham were genuinely interested then you wonder if Levy could make an approach – if the North Londoners haven’t been in contact already, that is.
