Tim Sherwood has stated ‘that ship has sailed down the River Mersey’ after he was asked about becoming Everton’s next manager.
The 53-year-old, who was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur in 2014, was last in a job when he managed Aston Villa in 2015.
The former Spurs player and academy coach first joined Villa during the 2014/15 season, in around this time of the season, to replace Paul Lambert, and he helped the Midlands side survive relegation.

That season also saw Villa reach the FA Cup final where they were beaten by Arsenal, but it went downhill from there, including getting sacked after ten games in charge of the following campaign that saw the one-time European champions relegated to the Championship after nearly 30 years.
Everton vs Villa is the most played fixture in English football history, but the way the Toffees are going, it won’t be the case next season.
The next manager through the door will be make or break for the Merseyside giants, but one thing is for sure, it won’t be Sherwood, as he told Premier League Productions (23/01/23 at 7:40 pm).
“Will there be plenty of managers willing to take them on,” asked presenter Steve Bower.
Sherwood responded: “There will be a queue.”.
The former midfielder is then asked ‘Are you one of them?’, to which he responded: “I think my ship has sailed down the Mersey.
“If I was going in, then I would wait until the next two games, Arsenal and Liverpool. They are very difficult fixtures,”

BACK TO BASICS
Everton are a mess all over the shop, from some players going through around seven managers, to board members not seeing eye-to-eye with the supporters.
Lampard might be gone, but the major issues are still there. In fact, the supporters didn’t have much of a problem with the former midfielder, the biggest problem is with the board.
That situation isn’t going to change anytime soon, therefore, a real character is needed for the dugout and someone who will have it his way or the highway.
