Leeds United have been linked with a surprise move for Mexican international Andres Guardado.
Guardado has made more than 100 caps for his country and plays at both left wing and left-back.
Guardado only signed for Betis this summer so he would take some convincing to leave, especially considering the fine form he is in.
Guardado has six assists in La Liga this season – two more than Lionel Messi, and only Pione Sisto (8) has managed more.
The £5.2 million Leeds reportedly want to pay may not even be enough, although it must be considered that Guardado is 31.
The signing would show a change of tact from owner Andrea Radrizzani and sporting director Victor Orta.
Instead of shopping in Europe’s bargain bins, like the Spanish second division, the Swedish league or Albania, Leeds would be going straight to the high end department store to sign their player of choice.
Perhaps Radrizzani has been convinced to change approach, after seeing how his side were demolished by Wolves a fortnight ago.
If that is the case, then the defeat will be a blessing in disguise.
