Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe was on target again last night
Tottenham Hotspur loanee Clinton N’Jie went up against Ligue 1’s brightest new star last night as Marseille hosted Monaco.
Just like Monaco’s match against Manchester City in the Champions League last week it was an entertaining affair, this time going to extra time.
Monaco won on this occasion, despite missing star striker Radamel Falcao, but it matter little as Kylian Mbappe stepped up.
Mbappe has attracted interest from clubs across Europe, with French newspaper Le Parisien reporting that Monaco want a staggering £51 million fee for his signature.
Tottenham are one of the sides to look to Ligue 1 in the transfer market in recent seasons, with Clinton N’Jie one of their more disappointing additions.
He is on loan at Marseille, and continued up front for them last night with Bafetimbi Gomis still out with injury.
N’Jie’s form has been mixed, scoring two weeks ago against Rennes, but being substituted after just 61 minutes of their 5-1 loss to PSG at the weekend.
Last night he did not get on the scoresheet, with Dimitri Payet and Remy Cabella (2) netting Marseille’s goals.
French website Maxifoot rated N’Jie’s performance at 5/10, noting that he was low on quality but praised his attitude and refusal to give up.
Mbappe was rated as the man-of-the-match, scored at 8/10, hailing his irrepressible confidence. The 18-year-old now has 13 goals in all competitions this season.
The winner was scored by Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, who netted against Spurs in the Champions League earlier this season.
