Whatever happens in the final of Euro 2020 for England, Arsenal fans can probably expect developments on the Ben White situation.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old defender all summer.
But with White being away on international duty with the Three Lions, it’s been a bit of an obstacle for the Gunners to complete the deal.
According to The Athletic last month, the North Londoners are close to agreeing a £50 million deal with Brighton for the player.
But journalist Pete O’Rouke has told The Football Terrace show on YouTube that a deal is pretty much done, revealing that White has even told some England teammates that he fully expects to be at the Emirates Stadium next season and beyond.
He said: “Obviously he’s away with England at the Euros right now so that’s holding up any potential deal being done. We all know he’s Arsenal’s top target this summer. They want to get this deal done. I’d expect this deal to be done at just over £50 million.
“Ben White really wants this move. The defender has his heart set on a move to the Emirates. I know from speaking to a few people that he’s been telling some of his England teammates that the deal is pretty much done. He expects to be an Arsenal player.”
Suits Arsenal
Gareth Southgate’s side take on Italy in the final of the competition at Wembley tomorrow, but White is unlikely to be involved.
The former Leeds loanee is yet to kick a ball for his country in this competition.
And that probably suits Arsenal because if he’s valued at £50 million already, that price would’ve gone way up if he had a stellar tournament with England.
Being only 23 and having just one Premier League season under his belt, you could argue that the North Londoners are over-paying as it is, but it’s nothing compared to what his price would and could’ve been had he dazzled on a stage like this.
