Amadou Onana has spoken out publicly about his future at Everton as the Belgian midfielder continues to be linked with a move away from Goodison Park.
Everton are set to be in for a busy summer transfer window with the Merseyside club needing to sell off key players to balance the books and comply with the Premier League’s financial fair play rules.
Jarrad Branthwaite, Jordan Pickford and Amadou Onana are the players that could well generate the most cash for the Toffees but it is the Belgian midfielder who, HITC understands, the club would be open to selling.
With the European Championships coming up this summer, if Onana does excel for Belgium, then the 22-year-old midfielder’s value could increase.
Onana speaks out on Everton future
In an interview with Belgian outlet Gazet Van Antwerpen, the former LOSC Lille midfielder was rather open when talking about his future at Goodison Park and his desire to potentially move on from the Toffees.
“The European Championship is a great platform to prove myself. You can put yourself in the spotlight. It has happened before that players do well at a big tournament and then make a transfer,” he said.
“There have been good offers in the past. It was so in the winter [Arsenal showed interest then] but also before. My work at Everton wasn’t finished at those times, which is why I stayed.
When asked about the potential fee he would demand, Onana said: “I have nothing to say about what transfer fee I can leave for. Oh well, if a top club is really convinced of my qualities, the asking price won’t be an issue.”
Number of top clubs interested in Onana
HITC have reported that Arsenal and Manchester United are keen on Onana as well as Barcelona but, as of yet, no firm offer has been made to the club to try and sign the Belgian.
Everton defender Branthwaite has also been heavily linked with a move to United but the Toffees would prefer to keep the Englishman and allow Onana to leave to balance the books.
The Toffees are demanding around £50 million for the midfielder but if he has a good international tournament in Germany, that valuation could rise.
