West Bromwich Albion’s summer transfer window did not go as well as the Baggies perhaps would have liked.
Of the nine players who have arrived at the Hawthorns on permanent or temporary deals since the end of last season, four – Matheus Pereira, Grady Diangana, Callum Robinson and Filip Krovinovic – were part of the side that won promotion from the Championship, while two – Cedric Kipre and David Button – have yet to feature in the current Premier League campaign.
It was, of course, a difficult period for most clubs, with the Covid-19 pandemic causing upheaval throughout the sport.
The winter window is little more than two months away, however.
And several of West Brom’s rumoured summer targets – including the following five – could be going cheap as their contracts draw to a close.

Andre Ayew
Club: Swansea City
Position: Attacking midfielder/winger/striker
Linked by: Daily Mail
What’s the latest? Ayew has scored or assisted four goals in eight Championship games for Swansea this season, but there is nothing to indicate that the 30-year-old has even been offered a renewal. His reported wage of £90,000-a-week could be the reason for that.

Andros Townsend
Club: Crystal Palace
Position: Winger
Linked by: Sunday Mirror
What’s the latest? Townsend has scored or assisted three goals in six Premier League games for Palace this season and his impact is underlined by the fact he has yet to miss a minute in the competition. He told Talksport on Tuesday however that he has yet to receive an offer from the Eagles.

Bright Osayi-Samuel
Club: Queens Park Rangers
Position: Winger
Linked by: Express & Star
What’s the latest? Osayi-Samuel has scored or assisted two goals in seven Championship games for QPR this season, but was left out of Tuesday’s defeat against Barnsley amid reports he has rejected a new deal. Speaking afterwards, however, the QPR manager Mark Warburton expressed hope that an agreement can still be reached.

Josh King
Club: AFC Bournemouth
Position: Winger/striker
Linked by: Sun
What’s the latest? King has only appeared twice for Bournemouth this season, just once as a starter, and has yet to score or assist a goal. As with Ayew, there is nothing to suggest a new deal is on the cards.

Troy Deeney
Club: Watford
Position: Striker
Linked by: Sky Sports
What’s the latest? Deeney has played just a minute of football for Watford this season and only appeared once in a matchday squad, despite being captain of the club. Again, there is no news on him earning an extension. The 32-year-old recently signed up to be a regular guest on Talksport.
