Youngsters from Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Stoke City head our list.
In the past a successful loan deal has been a preface for a successful career. David Beckham had a successful stint at Preston North End in 1995. Less than a year later he was lobbing Neil Sullivan from the halfway line and on his way to global superstardom.
Jack Wilshere, Daniel Sturridge, Tom Cleverley, Jonny Evans and Danny Welbeck are more recent examples and last season Ryo Miyaichi and John Guidetti of Arsenal and Man City respectively made massive impacts at Dutch club Feyenoord.
Then there are the Chelsea loanees Thibaut Courtois and Jeffrey Bruma; one lifting the Europa League trophy; the other forcing his way into the Dutch national team. Both men are back out on loan this season but what other loan players should we keep an eye on?
Joel Campbell – Arsenal
Signed by Arsenal last year the Costa Rican has an imposing scoring record for the national team setup’s including a goal against Spain in November of last year. Although his loan spell in Lorient wasn’t blessed with goals; his raw pace and delightful left foot make him one to watch this season at Real Betis.
Florent Cuvelier – Stoke City
Is it just the big boys sending their players out on loan? No, one promising player being borrowed by Walsall in League One next season is Stoke City’s flying Belgian winger. After signing a new two year deal with the Potters in May Florent was swiftly sent back out on a 6 month loan to Walsall, where he had a successful stay at the end of last season. The former Belgium under-19 captain turned down Man City and Spurs to sign for Stoke in 2011 and is ready to wait for first team action at the Britannia. In the meanwhile he will get plenty of playing time at the Bank’s Stadium.
John Cofie – Manchester United
Manchester United really are blessed with young talent and the Ghanaian born English youth international is definitely one to focus on this season at Sheffield United. Tall, strong and athletic with an eye for goal he spent a period on loan at regular United farmclub Royal Antwerp and will be hoping to bang in the goals in League One this season.
Kenneth Omeruo – Chelsea
Back at Dutch side ADO Den Haag this season after very successful stint toward the end of last the 18 year old Nigerian will be hoping to catch the attention of the Chelsea hierarchy with his solid performances at the heart of the Eredivisie sides defence. If he can have half the impact Courtois and Bruma did in the season gone this will be a good season for Kenneth.
Omar Elabdellaoui – Manchester City
Signed as a 16 year old in 2008 from Skeid the Norwegian midfielder spent last season on loan in his homeland with Stromsgodset. Now he’s followed in the footsteps of team-mate John Guidetti too Eredivisie side Feyenoord. A fast, strong and versatile attacking midfield player he will be hoping for success in both Holland and Europe this season.
