Liverpool could strengthen their Premier League title push with these January transfer window deals.
Joe Hart
Liverpool’s goalkeeping turmoils have been well documented this season – with both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius making mistakes in recent months.
The futures of both stoppers is up for debate, but while manager Jurgen Klopp ponders the direction he wishes to take Liverpool’s number 1 spot, it is worth considering that a highly experienced international, Premier League winning, English speaking goalkeeper is apparently readily available.
Manchester City’s Joe Hart, currently on loan at Italian side Torino, would be an outstanding acquisition for Liverpool in the January transfer window.
Benjamin Henrichs
Regardless of James Milner’s impressive stand-in performances, the Englishman is not the long-term solution to Liverpool’s left back spot. Alberto Moreno has not proven himself at Premier League level and looks set to depart the club before long.
This leaves the proverbial cupboards bare at Anfield as far as left backs are concerned. Long time target Jonas Hector has been muted, as has Liverpool-born Aaron Cresswell, but neither FC Koln or West Ham United are likely to sell.
Recently capped German defender Benjamin Henrichs would be an ideal signing for Klopp.
The 19-year-old is one of the top defensive performers in both the Champions League and the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen this season; indeed, Henrichs sits in the top ten for interceptions and clearances and made his international debut earlier in the campaign.
Virgil Van Dijk
If a big money signing is sanctioned by the Liverpool board, then Klopp really should break the bank to sign the Southampton central defender.
With Mamadou Sakho out of favour and possibly departing Liverpool, Van Dijk would prove to be a top quality signing for the Reds.
Despite the encouraging recent form of Dejan Lovren, The Netherlands international’s potential partnership with Joel Matip at the heart of Klopp’s back four would certainly be an Anfield upgrade.
Quincy Promes
Another Netherlands international, Quincy Promes, may well be the winger that Klopp is searching for. With Danny Ings set to miss the rest of the season and Sadio Mane’s upcoming absence due to the African Cup of Nations, Liverpool find themselves without a significant forward threat in wide areas.
Promes, who currently plies his trade in Russia, is a pacey forward who is capable of playing across a mobile front line. Promes’ goal scoring record is also impressive – as the wide man has bagged 37 goals in 78 games for Spartak Moscow.
Christian Pulisic
The one that refuses to go away. The links between 18-year-old Pulisic and Liverpool appear strong, for numerous reasons.
Firstly, Pulisic is a talent and has been a difference maker on many occasions for current side Borussia Dortmund – which raises point number two: Liverpool boss Klopp already knows the American, as he was the manager at Dortmund when Pulisic was signed in early 2015.
Liverpool are owned by the American Fenway Sports Group – who may well see the next big American hope playing for their club as an attractive proposition.
Finally, having already experienced living in England and, to some extent, playing in the English game, Pulisic should settle at Anfield – should the transfer materialise.
