5 players who could leave Leeds United in the summer

The Whites are currently in the race for promotion from the Championship into the Premier League.

Leeds United have had a season to remember, putting last term’s disappointing Championship campaign firmly behind them as Marcelo Bielsa shaped the team into a bona fide title contender.

Aside from flying high in the table, the Whites have also played exhilarating football and entertaining fans and neutrals alike, and with just eight games to go, they sit third in the table, just one point behind second-placed Sheffield United and five behind leaders Norwich City.

Given nobody can take their eyes away from the action, talk of next season seems to be on ice, with Leeds still in with a great chance of the Premier League in their centenary year, but it’s worth casting an eye on the current squad and which players could potentially be upping sticks in the summer whether in the top flight or second tier.

According to Transfermarkt, not one senior player is out of contract in the summer, so on that front it’s pretty straightforward, but Under-23s goalkeeper Kamil Miazek is way down the pecking order and, despite Transfermarkt showing Leeds have an option for a further year beyond the summer, it looks unlikely this could be taken up.

Pawel Cibicki and Caleb Ekuban are on loan at Elfsborg and Trabzonspor respectively and their deals have options to buy, so they could very well go, and even if they are not taken up, their futures at Elland Road don’t look particularly fruitful and they might opt for first-team football elsewhere.

In terms of more established players, Eunan O’Kane – who played often last season – hasn’t featured at all for the Whites this term, and even though he is recovering from injury, there’s every chance he could leave once back to fitness.

There is only one Leeds man who has featured a lot this season who could possibly be in with a shout of leaving – Stuart Dallas, whose starts largely came around October and November but after recovering from a foot injury has mostly made cameo appearances.

This could just be a case of Bielsa easing him back into action and as such it’s not necessarily a case of him being frozen out, but nonetheless he may wonder how much first-team football he could be in for next term and thus make a decision on his future, though it’s probably the least likely of all the players mentioned.
