Last night, Liverpool suffered their first Champions League defeat of the season when Inter Milan recorded a 1-0 win over the Reds at Anfield.
Fortunately for Jürgen Klopp, his side still managed to progress into the quarter-finals, having won 2-0 at the San Siro.
It was still a decent display despite the defeat, as proven by the fact Inter Milan glovesman Samir Handanović won the Man of the Match award.
However, Sadio Mané didn’t receive the nicest treatment from the Italian media for his performance.
What’s the story?
Well, Gazzetta dello Sport did not hold back when analysing the Senegal international’s display at Anfield.
They describe Mané as the ‘worst’ player on the pitch, while also giving him a match rating of just 5/10 – ouch.
Gazzetta dello Sport also took aim at Diogo Jota – they claim that they didn’t even know he was playing until he was booked in the 40th minute.
Was Sadio Mané really that bad for Liverpool vs Inter Milan?
Unfortunately, the Liverpool No.10 wasn’t great against Inter Milan.
WhoScored back up Gazzetta dello Sport‘s analysis, as they show that Mané failed to have a shot on target last night, while only making one key pass.
The 29-year-old also embarked on just one dribble, and failed to record any kind of defensive action, whether it be a tackle, interception or clearance.
With players like Luis Diaz now breathing down the back of his neck, Mané must up his game if he wants to keep his place in Klopp’s starting XI.
