Newcastle United fans would like to see more quality additions brought into the club over the next six months.
Newcastle United are still heavily favoured to gain promotion to the Premier League this season, despite their poor recent run of form.
And contrastingly, Swansea City are being tipped by many to head in the opposite direction, even though they have just made a new managerial appointment in Paul Clement.
The Swans have a player who could take the Magpies to the next level – Gylfi Sigurdsson, but after reports claiming that they will not allow the Iceland international to leave the Liberty Stadium this month (South Wales Evening Post), Rafa Benitez might just have to wait until the summer, before he makes a move.
Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson
During Jonjo Shelvey’s absence through suspension, Newcastle have suffered without an accomplished passer of the football in the middle of the park, and their need for another player of that ilk has been highlighted even more so by their poor results of late.
Although Sigurdsson and Shelvey are not exactly the same type of player, they do have similar qualities, and the Icelandic star is arguably even better than the Englishman.
His presence amongst the Newcastle side could potentially take them to another level.
Slotted in the number 10 role, just behind Dwight Gayle, Sigurdsson’s creativity could help improve the striker’s game even further, if that is at all possible.

He is also a set-piece specialist – something that would be hugely beneficial to the Tyneside outfit, considering how highly important Benitez considers that part of the game to be.
Obviously, much will depend on what division the respective clubs involved in this potential deal are playing in next season, but if they do end up swapping places, then the Magpies have every chance of tempting Sigurdsson with a move to St James’ Park.
Although they will be sure to have competition for his signature.
