Liverpool and Thomas Gronnemark are now set to part ways after Jürgen Klopp denied the 47-year-old’s request.
The Dane has spent the past five years working at Anfield as a throw-in coach.
Now – however – Thomas Gronnemark is set to leave Merseyside for one reason following a decision from Jürgen Klopp.
What’s the story?
Well, Gronnemark wanted to stay at Liverpool, but only on the basis that he could spend more time working with the squad at the AXA Training Centre.
Klopp – according to The Athletic – did not agree to that request, and the Danish specialist is now set to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.
While that may seem like a sour ending to Gronnemark’s time at Anfield, it is said that his departure is amicable and there are no hard feelings.
It is not all bad news, as the set-piece specialist, who was once told by a Liverpool fan to focus on Thiago’s throw-ins, still has jobs at Ajax, Philadelphia Union and Toulouse to focus on.

Gronnemark told The Athletic: “I won’t be working for Liverpool beyond this season and I didn’t decide that myself, it was a club decision, but I respect that decision and I’ll always be grateful for the amazing opportunity Jurgen gave me.
“I told the club that I felt the best solution for next season was to increase the number of visits to give me the chance to work deeper with the players. The second best solution was not continuing at Liverpool Football Club because I can’t have a proper influence going so long between visits.
“The response from the club was that they didn’t think going back to four or five visits a season would be possible and that they will try to work with the throw-ins themselves going forward. I’ll always be proud to say I worked for Liverpool Football Club.”
Gronnemark made an impact at Liverpool
As revealed by the Dane on his official Twitter account, the statistics show that an impact has been made by his work on throw-ins at Anfield.
Gronnemark helped Liverpool progress from 18th in the Premier League to first when it comes to receiving throw-ins under pressure from the opponent.
While it may seem like a small achievement, Klopp has placed a lot of focus on marginal gains over the years, and in that respect, Gronnemark did the job that was required of him.
