Reported Manchester United target Carlos Mane is said to be just two matches away from picking up a sizeable bonus.
The phrase ‘burst onto the scene’ is used all too frequently when it comes to young footballers. But in the case of Sporting Lisbon winger Carlos Mane, it is apt.
The youngster made six appearances in Portugal’s second tier last season for Sporting B, and yet 12 months later, he has featured 18 times for the first-team, scoring four goals in the process.
Mane reportedly has a release-clause of €45million – which appears to be the token amount for the much-heralded players from that particular club, with another Manchester United target, William Carvalho valued just as highly.
But in truth United’s apparent interest in Mane is unlikely to see them break the bank; not when they have done business with Sporting in the past for both Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani for considerably less than the figures hovering around Mane.
But as if to prove just how far the now-20-year-old has come in a short space of time, Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports that he could soon be banking an additional €20,000.
That is the figure he is reportedly eligible for if he makes 20 appearances for Sporting’s first-team this season.
The report adds that a similar deal was in place for when he reached five and 10 matches, meaning he has already taken home €40,000 due to a canny point in his contract.
It just shows how far Mane has come in less than a year, and begs the question: What is next for a winger many claim has more potential than Nani had at the same age?
