The Real Madrid ace has been linked with moves to Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
Wales manager Ryan Giggs spoke to reporters ahead of the 2018 Laureus World Sports Awards in Monaco last night, and insisted that Gareth Bale is happy at Real Madrid, amidst links with Tottenham and Manchester United, as quoted by Football.London.
According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Spurs and United are set to battle it out for the signature of Bale in the summer, with the Welshman being deemed surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The 28-year-old joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2013, for a then world record fee of £85.3 million, but he hasn’t quite lived up to expectations in the Spanish capital, although he has still chipped in with 56 goals and 58 assists in 203 appearances for Los Blancos.
Giggs, who will has a vested interest in Bale’s future now that he is the Wales national team manager, shared how the 28-year-old is more than happy in Spain, as quoted by Football.London:
“His future doesn’t concern me, he’s at a brilliant club. When you’re at a top club, as I know, you’re constantly under scrutiny. I went to see him and he was happy. He’s fit and looking really good. He made an impact when he came on against PSG. Everyone in Wales knows how important Gareth is. A fit and well Gareth Bale makes such a difference.”
If Bale is to leave the Bernabeu this summer, he will not come cheap, and whether Tottenham could afford his transfer fee and wages is debatable to say the least.
Following Giggs’ comments on the Welshman, though, it seems as though he won’t be leaving Madrid anytime soon.
