It looks like Eddie Howe to Celtic is gathering quite a lot of pace – and even more over the past 24 hours.
Sky Sports claimed on Thursday that Celtic had touched base with the 43-year-old over replacing Neil Lennon, who quit as head coach earlier this calendar year.
According to The Scottish Sun, Howe has already held a secret meeting with Dermot Desmond and outgoing chief executive Peter Lawwell.
And now The Sun claims that Celtic could announce the former Bournemouth boss as Lennon’s long-term successor ‘as early as next week’.
If true, this is ideal for the Parkhead club.
It isn’t only ideal because Howe has been the Celtic fans’ pick for quite a number of months, but the timing is fantastic.
The more time that the former Cherries coach has before next season starts, the better he can prepare to wrestle the Bhoys’ title back off Rangers, who are 20 points clear of their Old Firm rivals this season.
That 20-point deficit is indicative of the fact that Celtic’s next manager has a massive job next term, because the Gers are light-years ahead this season.
The sooner Howe is appointed, the better.
