Everton have entered the race to sign Hirving Lozano, with Mexican outlet Super Deportivo reporting they have offered £42 million.

Lozano has had a sensational first half of the season for PSV Eindhoven, and Arsenal are reportedly battling Everton for his signature.

Hirving Lozano #14 of Mexico kicks the ball past Michael Boxall #5 of New Zealand during the first half at Nissan Stadium on October 8, 2016 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Lozano is more than just a player, he has become a Mexican national icon, and is regarded as their best player since Javier Hernandez.

He has every chance of being a success at Everton, but they must also calculate that it is a big risk to pay so much money for him.

Fool me twice?

Everton have been deceived once already in 2017 by performances in the Eredivisie already.

The Toffees felt they were onto a sure thing when they snapped up Ajax ace Davy Klaassen.

Klaassen had been a consistent performer for Ajax for several seasons, and he netted 20 times in all competitions in 2016/17.

This season at Everton he has struggled, and has not found the net in 12 appearances to date.

Hirving Lozano’s haul of 10 goals in 15 Eredivisie games is commendable, and looks impressive, but make no mistake about it, splashing £42 million on him would be a huge risk after Klaassen’s struggles.
