Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has admitted turning down offers to leave the club this summer.
Cristian Romero is committed to Tottenham Hotspur having snubbed interest from other clubs.
Romero has been speaking to Football London about a number of subjects, from the breakdown of the Antonio Conte era to a new approach under Ange Postecoglou.
Winning the World Cup of course came up too, before Romero made a somewhat unprompted claim about transfer interest.
Romero was answering a question about fans sometimes believing he cares more about Argentina than Tottenham.
The defender responded by stating that he has received offers to leave Tottenham this summer.
Romero has rejected those offers, stating that he wants to play for Spurs for ‘many more years’ yet.
The former Juventus man added that people who think he doesn’t care about Spurs clearly don’t know him.
“I think the people that say this clearly don’t know me because I’m contracted to the club for many [more] years. I always try to give my best,” said Romero. “Obviously last season it didn’t always turn out great and you accept that. When things don’t go well, you’re the first to hold your hands up.”
“As I said before, I’ll take that, but I always try to give absolutely everything on the field. I always try to repay that trust that the fans, the club and everyone else put in me and I’ll try to come back in this coming season, by having good games so we can push the club as high up as possible.”
“If I didn’t feel the same passion [for Spurs as I do for Argentina], I would look to leave the club. Obviously I’m not happy with how last season ended for me and as I said before, I’m the first to hold my hands up and say it wasn’t the best season but when I got offers from other clubs to move away for this coming season, I said no because I want to have my best years here. I really like the Premier League, I really like Tottenham and I want to be here for many more years to come,” he added.

We do wonder if one of the offers came from Juventus.
Argentinian reporter Gaston Edul claimed on Twitter in June that Juve were keen to re-sign Romero.
Juve didn’t exactly embrace Romero during his last spell with the club and we could hardly blame the Tottenham defender for not being excited by that potential move.
Romero – who joined Spurs for £42.5million – now looks set to stay at Tottenham and avoid what could become a real defensive overhaul this summer.
Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon all look primed to leave Tottenham and pave the way for new signings.
Spurs are being heavily linked with Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo as well as Bundesliga duo Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba.
We’re expecting Tottenham to sign two new centre backs this summer but ultimately continue with Romero as a key part of their back line after rejecting offers to leave.
