Tottenham and West Ham were both linked to Andre Gomes last month.

Andre Gomes has spoken out on his situation at Barcelona after being linked with making a deadline day exit.

The Portugal international midfielder was claimed by The Telegraph to be wanted by both Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, potentially signing him on a season long loan deal.

Gomes however is insistent he never really came all that close to leaving.

Speaking to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Gomes said that he “had options to leave Barca, but nothing serious.”

Gomes says he wants to be a success at Barcelona, even though he added, “I am not one of those people who does not eat if the team loses.”

HITC Sport reported how it was claimed on transfer deadline day that Gomes’ move would have included a £40 million permanent payment clause, if he played a certain percentage of games for his loan club.

Barcelona paid the same fee for Gomes last season but he only played in 17 La Liga games, struggling to establish himself as a regular starter.

The 24-year-old has played just 22 minutes of league action this season, in two substitute appearances.
