Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been speaking about Fabio Carvalho after joining Liverpool this past weekend.
Carvalho was the Reds’ first of three summer signings so far and the 19-year-old was photographed in Jurgen Klopp’s pre-season training sessions at Kirkby this week.
The Portuguese gem was among the Championship’s best players last term, helping Fulham win Premier League promotion at a canter.
This is a frightening talent and Oxlade-Chamberlain – a £40 million signing in 2017 – has been praising his new teammate, sharing that he’s already shown how ‘technically gifted’ he is already in training.
He said to LFC TV: “He’s obviously a young player, very technically gifted. I saw a few little bits from him at Fulham last year and from guys I know there they all speak very highly of him. I’m sure we’re going to see him learn from a lot of the boys round here and settle in.”
It’ll be fascinating to see what Klopp’s short-term plan is for Carvalho.
Obviously the long-term hope is that the teenager will be an excellent player for Liverpool, in the first XI every single week.
That being said, he’s still only a teenager and as Harvey Elliott proved last season, breaking into this Reds XI at such a tender age is extremely difficult.
Elliott struggled for regular football during the second half of last season, often failing to even make the matchday squad.
But Elliott, like Carvalho, is a very exciting prospect and it’ll be interesting to see if the Portuguese can make waves in the senior side or whether he is loaned out.
