Newcastle United are reportedly keen to bring Joelinton to the Premier League after a fantastic Bundesliga season with Hoffenheim.

We will learn a lot about Newcastle United’s transfer strategy this summer.

With owner Mike Ashley seemingly loosening the purse-strings having bankrolled the £20 million club-record signing of Miguel Almiron in January, Newcastle fans can be a little more optimistic that their club will be fighting for the top talents this summer.

And Joelinton is certainly one of those.

A 22-year-old Brazilian centre-forward, Joelinton was a revelation during his debut Bundesliga season with Hoffenheim in 2018/19, producing 11 goals and nine assists in all competitions while wreaking havoc with his combination of excellent hold up play and intelligent movement.

The Northern Echo claims that Joelinton is on Newcastle’s radar – even if his price-tag is set at an eye-watering £40 million.

That is a lot more than Salomon Rondon. The Venezuelan international is available for £16.5 million and, after thriving on loan at St James’ Park from West Brom last season, he’d be a hugely popular addition.

But Ashley appears far from convinced about paying a substantial sum for a player who will turn 30 later in the year. Joelinton is seven years younger, however, and the fact that he shares a lot of similarities with Rondon is surely no coincidence.

If Ashley is willing to pay up, Joelinton is worth a punt. He’d offer the presence and power that Rondon provided last season – with the added bonus of more longevity and the potential to increase his price-tag even further.
