Frederic Guilbert’s nightmare spell at Aston Villa might just be coming to an end, with the right-back posting a cryptic Twitter post.
The 28-year-old last featured for Aston Villa in August 2021 against Barrow in the League Cup, when Dean Smith was in charge and a certain Cameron Archer bagged a hat-trick.
That will prove to be Guilbert’s last game in Villa colours, and to look for a positive, at least he ended it with a goal and an assist.

There is talk that the Frenchman is looking at leaving Villa with the January transfer window open, he is set to head back home with Ligue 1 teams keen on the player.
Well, a possible exit might be closer than people think, with Guilbert posting a football, hourglass and praying emoji on social media on Saturday evening.
Villa fans in the comments section felt like he was hinting towards an exit, with many thanking him for his efforts and apologising that it didn’t work out for him.
GUILBERT’S SPELL AT VILLA
The right-back first joined Villa when they were stuck and struggling in the Championship. The £40k-a-week star (Spotrac) signed from Ligue 1 side Caen during the January transfer window.
Given that he was playing for a top-tier team in Europe, many questioned why he would drop to the second division of a team that, at the time, wasn’t even looking like they were going to earn promotion.
But he believed and felt it was the right call, and he proved to be correct because, when his season ended with Caen’s, he would have been kicking and punching every ball from the Wembley stands as Villa beat Derby County in the play-off final.
Guilbert earned regular game time up until the pandemic hit of their first season back in England’s top-flight, and since then, it has either been loan spells back home or game time with the reserves.
