Ever since Mikel Arteta replaced Unai Emery, Matteo Guendouzi has struggled to continue his development at Arsenal.

Arteta never seemed to give the Frenchman as much trust as Emery did, and eventually, Guendouzi’s relationship with the Gunners boss deteriorated.

For those who do feel Arteta is the issue, their beliefs have been reinforced by Guendouzi’s stunning form while on loan at Marseille.

What’s the story?

Well, it seems the £40,000-a-week man is enjoying himself in France.

French news outlet La Provence have showered Guendouzi in praise, claiming that he has been ‘shining’ for Jorge Sampaoli’s side.

They write that the 22-year-old is viewed as the ‘complete package’ in Ligue 1, and that he has been ‘breathtaking’ since arriving from Arsenal.

Marseille have an option to buy Guendouzi as part of the season-long loan, an option which turns into an obligation if certain clauses are met.

Was Mikel Arteta right to let Matteo Guendouzi leave Arsenal?

In our view, Arteta had to get rid of Guendouzi to set an example about what type of mentality he wants from his players.

During a problematic performance in the 2-1 loss to Brighton back in June 2020, Guendouzi angered Arteta and club staff with his behaviour.

Football London believe Arteta offered the youngster many chances to redeem himself, although the midfielder wasn’t in any mood to cooperate.

In that respect, Arteta can’t really be blamed for what happened.

After all, how would it look to the rest of the players if the Spaniard continued to play Guendouzi after showing such poor attitude?

The Frenchman is a fine player, although he was not mature enough for Arsenal during his time at the Emirates Stadium.
