Sunderland fans should keep an eye on these players at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The 2018 World Cup is fast approaching and for many football fans in England there is plenty to keep an eye on concerning their club.
So here are four things that Sunderland supporters should be watching out for during the tournament in Russia.

The only (sort of) representative
The Black Cats only have one current first team player in action at the World Cup and that is Bryan Oviedo, who has been named in Costa Rica’s squad.
Oviedo is expected to start for his country at left-back in their Group E matches against European duo Serbia and Switzerland and five-time winners Brazil.
The other representative
Technically Wahbi Khazri is still a Sunderland but has spent the past season on loan at Rennes following their relegation from the Premier League.
According to the Chronicle the Ligue 1 outfit are keen to make that move permanent as well, while a host of other sides are interested in a player who will be facing England, Belgium and Panama in Group G for Tunisia.

Hometown boy
He may have missed out on the captaincy to Harry Kane, but Sunderland-born Jordan Henderson is set to play a big part for the Three Lions in the competition.
The midfielder, who joined Liverpool in 2011, came through the academy at the Stadium of Light and will be representing the city on the biggest stage.
Recent departure
Another in Gareth Southgate’s squad with links to Wearside is Jordan Pickford, who was sold to Everton last summer having also come through their youth ranks.
Pickford’s rise has been rapid and it looks like the 24-year-old will be first choice goalkeeper at the World Cup ahead of Jack Butland – something the Black Cats have played a big part in helping to happen.
