The Tottenham Hotspur defender impressed during the 3-2 win against Swansea City on Wednesday night.

Danny Rose, while being heavily praised for his energy going forward, has come in for some criticism this term.

That criticism has been justified. At times – and in big games especially – the Tottenham man looks as though he simply couldn’t defend to save his life.

But, credit where it is due, the 24-year-old shone against Swansea City on Wednesday night.

Maybe it was the fact the pressure of having to fight on three fronts is now off Spurs. Maybe it was the fact the north London side now have to fight as hard as they can to ensure this season doesn’t slip into a state of mediocrity.

Whatever it was, however, Rose was on fire as Tottenham beat the Swans 3-2.

Indeed, as Opta stats show, the left-back shone in several key areas at White Hart Lane. Rose created four chances – one of which was an assist for a goal. He also delivered two accurate crosses and won two dribbles.

The 24-year-old took 77 touches of the ball and entered the final third 11 times, continuing Mauricio Pochettino’s trend of instructing his full-backs to surge forward at all possible times (Kyle Walker did the same).

But Walker did a Rose, so to speak. The right-back looked unconvincing defensively despite his efforts in attack. Rose, winning three tackles (joint-highest of any Spurs player) was also solid at the back.

Tottenham fans will no doubt hope, though, that the full-back can keep this kind of form up – and not revert to type as one of the Premier League’s most frustrating defenders.
