Liverpool are reportedly pursuing a £3m bargain deal to sign Aberdeen talent Calvin Ramsay – who has now told the Press & Journal he is looking to emulate Andy Robertson, and is studying Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Breaking into Aberdeen’s side last season and playing six times, 18-year-old Ramsay has made himself first choice this time around. Playing 32 times, he has opened his account with a goal – and laid on an impressive nine assists.
The Press & Journal, among many other outlets, claim that Liverpool are one of a number of clubs interested in signing the Scotland Under-21 star. The Express claim Aberdeen are willing to listen to offers of £3million.
Now, Ramsay has spoken of his influences and is looking up to current Liverpool left-back Robertson – his nation’s skipper – as someone he wants to emulate. As a right-back, he is studying that of Alexander-Arnold.
“Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney are brilliant and players I look up to. Especially as a full-back, I play in the same position as them and have seen what they’ve done. I feel I could go on to do that as well,” Ramsay said.
“I like to watch videos Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker and try to base my game on them. Watching Alexander-Arnold and his crosses and his technical ability. If I can be half the player he is, I will be laughing.”
Liverpool eye Ramsay: The next Robertson, and Alexander-Arnold?
Well, there is a long way to go but for Ramsay to be producing quality performances in a quickly improving Scottish Premiership – and already showing an end product with both goals, and assists, he could be.
At such a young age, he is shining at senior level. The issue for Ramsay this summer will be, whether he wants to join Liverpool and act ac cover – like Neco Williams and Konstantinos Tsimikas – or remain, and keep playing.
Perhaps a deal in which Liverpool sign Ramsay and then loan him back to Pittodrie for the next season, or even next two seasons, would aid the star’s development more so, but also see Liverpool sign him.
