Connor Goldson has made a strong start at new side Rangers – leading Steven Gerrard’s side to back to back clean sheets.

While Rangers will face sterner tests than Macedonian side Shkupi, the early signs are good.

Goldson has been a strong presence in the Rangers defence, winning headers, leading by example, and encouraging his teammates.

Fellow Rangers new boy Nikola Katic has done well too alongside him, but he may have looked a lot less assured without Goldson alongside him.

Rangers’ pursuit of Goldson was not easy, with Brighton reluctant to let him leave.

After a number of bids, Rangers finally got their man for £3 million, and so far it looks money well spent.

It is easy to dismiss the past two games as not being a true test, but last year the Gers had their season ruined at this early stage.

Manager Steven Gerrard identified central defence as a weak point and acted decisively to fix it before their Europa League qualifying campaign began.

Goldson is doing him proud, and Gerrard will hope it continues.
