According to Diario Sport, reported Tottenham Hotspur target Ivan Rakitic has his heart set on joining Sevilla after turning down other moves.

The Croatia international’s time at Barcelona is coming to an end.

Mundo Deportivo claim Tottenham are the frontrunners to sign the midfielder.

Rakitic, however, has his heart set on a move to Sevilla after Sport claim he turned down both Juventus and Paris-Saint German – the latter in a £37 million deal.

Rakitic, 32, spent a successful period at Sevilla prior to his move to Barcelona. His wife’s family is from the area, and he considers the region his home.

Tottenham may have considered a potential cut-price move for the experienced midfielder with Rakitic’s contract at the Nou Camp to expire in 2021.

Spurs must look at strengthening their midfield options this summer.

Jose Mourinho’s side looked way short of the required standards before the Covid-19 suspension, dropping out of the FA Cup and Champions League in quick succession. In the Premier League, Spurs suffered three straight defeats.

Mourinho rates Rakitic highly, having described him as “one of the most underrated players in the world” on beIN SPORTS in March 2019.

The former Sevilla midfielder, however, has his heart set on a return to Seville. Spurs, meanwhile, will have to look elsewhere ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
