Sporting Lisbon president Frederico Varandas reiterates that Ruben Amorim is under contract until 2024 amid reports linking the highly-rated manager with Wolves, speaking to Mais Futebol.
The allure of the Premier League can only take you so far.
Career-wise, some would argue that leaving Portuguese football for a fresh start in Europe’s most high-profile domestic competition would represent a step forwards, even if Wolves and Aston Villa both find themselves glancing nervously over their shoulders at the dreaded Championship.
Amorim, however, sees things differently.

At Sporting, he can fight for titles. He can challenge himself against some of the finest tacticians in the game on the Champions League stage. And, much to Varandas’ delight, Amorim has shown little interest in walking away from a contract with two years remaining.
“He has a contract until 2024,” Varandas points out. “And we cannot be more satisfied and proud.”
Ruben Amorim not interested in Wolves or Aston Villa
According to The Sun, Amorim made it clear following the sacking of compatriot Bruno Lage that he had little interest in taking that well-worn path from Lisbon to Wolverhampton.
Aston Villa also installed the 39-year-old as one of their top targets before opting for Unai Emery (Telegraph).
Amorim distanced himself from those Aston Villa links late last week. And, when pressed further ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur, the 37-year-old insisted he is not yet on the look out for a fresh challenge.
“Obviously, I want to be in big leagues. But that’s not what attracts me; it’s having a good project, good players, being able to convey my identity to my players. I’m already at a big club, and I’m very young,” Amorim explains (O Jogo).
“I view the president’s words with joy. (Varandas is) someone who trusts in our work.”
Amorim, in 2020/21, guided Sporting Lisbon to their first Primeira Liga title in two decades. The capital city club could still qualify for the Champions League knock-out stages. They have six points, sitting joint-second, and beat Spurs 2-0 in Portugal last month.
