Well, Rangers midfielder Steven Davis isn’t going anywhere for now.

The legendary Gers star helped the Ibrox club to their 55th Premiership title this season – and first since 2011.

As a bonus, Rangers also ended Celtic’s bid to win 10 league titles in a row as Steven Gerrard’s side sit 20 points clear of their Old Firm rivals.

Davis has already signed a one-year contract extension to stay with the light Blues until the end of next season in what represented even more good news for Gerrard and the club’s legion of fans.

But long term, Davis, who turns 37 next January, will know that he’s very much in the twilight of his career – well, his playing career anyway.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Northern Ireland international has revealed that he would love to take the reins at Rangers as manager at some point in the future, but admitted that it’s a ‘long way away’.

He said: “Yes, it would be nice to get the both of them [Rangers and NIR job], but a long way away. I think the first thing would be getting the coaching badges and making sure that I enjoy doing that side of things and I feel like I can give something to the game from that aspect as well.”

First on the agenda for Davis will be helping the Bears to defend their title next season.

Winning it is one thing, but Celtic are guaranteed to come back a lot stronger next time around and Rangers should brace themselves for a backlash.
