36-year-old claims Bielsa’s style isn’t ‘the same’ without underrated Leeds star

Jermaine Beckford knows a thing or two about scoring goals for Leeds and has leapt to the defence of current Whites frontman Patrick Bamford.

The Englishman has come under fire during a season when he has missed more ‘big chances’ than anyone else in the Championship.

Speaking to TalkSport, via Leeds Live, Beckford said: “A lot of people are saying they don’t score enough goals, there are players like Patrick Bamford who should be scoring more.

“Patrick Bamford has had a phenomenal season. He’s done really, really well. Without him being the focal point, Leeds United don’t create as many chances as they do, and they don’t play the same type of football.”

Bamford scores just enough goals to maintain Bielsa’s faith in him but not the amount that a truly prolific striker would get in this Leeds side.

That’s the conundrum they have and Bielsa’s January striking signing Jean-Kevin Augustin has not made any impact whatsoever.

It was a similar story with Eddie Nketiah who is now scoring goals (albeit getting red cards too) in the Premier League.

That likely hints at the amount of ‘other’ work Bielsa demands from his frontmen; Bamford clearly gets it, others haven’t.

Beckford, 36, knows what it takes to be a top striker at Leeds and Bamford should be heartened by his praise, as he hopes to score the goals to finally get Leeds over the line this season.
