Jonny Evans has emerged as a transfer target for West Ham – with boss David Moyes keen on the player he managed at Manchester United.

Evans is a key player for West Bromwich Albion, with The Sun reporting in the summer he would cost any interested club a staggering £35 million.

West Ham would surely be hoping that inflated quotation is a fee which gets reduced if they are to stand a chance of doing a deal.

Also working in their favour is Evans’ opinion of David Moyes.

Evans spoke highly of Moyes while at Old Trafford, telling ESPN in 2013: “The new manager is very tactically aware.

“He is definitely improving the team in the sense of how he wants to play and the tactics he wants. The things he is teaching us can only benefit the players.”

Evans also made a point of defending Moyes later in the season when the Red Devils’ form dipped, telling The Express: “The onus is on players to step it up. We know we haven’t played well enough, both as individuals and as a team. We have to look at ourselves and raise our performances.”

West Ham are not going to be Evans’ only option, with Everton currently keen and Manchester City expressing their interest in the summer, which led to the high price tag.

Moyes could have a chance of persuading him to join, providing the fee is a reasonable one.
