Sven Botman has shared that Manchester United superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, is his first footballing idol, as he told MOTDx.
When Newcastle take on Manchester United in the Premier League this season, Botman shared that he will have to treat it as a ‘normal’ game.
Well, Botman doesn’t have too long to wait because Eddie Howe’s side will travel to Old Trafford on October 14.
There is every chance Botman is in the starting XI, but will Ronaldo start considering he has hardly been used by Eric ten Hag this season?
What might favour Botman is that Man United will be in the thick of a fixture pile-up, so he might find that Ronaldo is starting that game because of rotation.
Either way, the £35 million Newcastle star (Sky Sports), also used Neymar, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe as examples of playing against great players.
On his first footballing idol “Cristiano Ronaldo,” said Botman.
On having to play against Ronaldo: “Just any game, it will be normal. Last season, for example, I played against Paris with Messi, Neymar and Mbappe, you look at them on TV playing FIFA with them.
“But in the game, you are the same like every other player.”
NEWCASTLE SEARCHING FOR THAT WIN
Newcastle are sitting tenth in the table, but they only have one win to their name from their opening seven matches.
It’s not going as planned, with their previous game, a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth, a prime example as to how they haven’t been clinical enough in the final third.
Well, before their trip to Man United, they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage before hosting Thomas Frank’s free-scoring Brentford.
If the Magpies come out of those games winless, then it will be interesting to see what the reaction will be like towards Howe.
