Some Newcastle United supporters are slating a pair of senior players after Friday’s under-23s success against Leeds United.
Newcastle fielded a mostly youthful side against their Premier League 2 rivals, with Paul Dummett and Henri Saivet the only Mapgies inclusions with any real first-team experience.
And a sluggish start saw the home side fall 3-0 down inside 31 minutes at Whitley Park.
Yannick Toure’s goal gave Newcastle hope ahead of half-time, before an Elliot Anderson penalty, Nohan Kenneh own goal and Stan Flaherty strike completed the turnaround.
But despite the win, the following Toon fans had little positive to say about either Dummett or Saivet.
Dummett and Saivet last appeared for the Newcastle seniors in January 2020 and January 2018 respectively.
And with summer signings Jamal Lewis and Jeff Hendrick impressing in the pair’s positions this season, that is unlikely to change any time soon.
The Hebburn Town striker Cedwyn Scott was among those on show against Leeds U23s and was heavily involved in the second and third goals.
Scott is set to spend November training with Newcastle, having scored 21 goals already this campaign.
